Beauty Is Beast

Listen good to her whispers faint,

Be fooled not by her guise, sly

Not all that glitters, is gold

For a past once haunted a saint

And there is such a thing,

That Beauty is beast.

She wears her heart on her sleeve

And in the depth of night, cries herself to sleep

Not all is told in a picture’s caption

Her cupboard of skeletons is creaking.

And there is such a thing,

That Beauty is beast.

Trouble in paradise, yet supposed nonchalance,

That rainbow of a smile veils her gloom.

Not all roads, have been to greener pastures,

She holds all in, but the cracks dance

And there is such a thing,

That Beauty is beast.

  1. How often we are carried away and misled, by the outward appearance, scarcely searching deep to lies within. Yet most veil people put across, is because they are afraid, no one would what they’re hiding on the inside. I love your poems Elsie, God bless you.

  2. Hi Elsie – there seems to be a new problem on my blog. You are listed as both active and waiting. Would you mind trying to make a comment and respond here what happened when you did? Thanks, Laine

    1. I sent a request to view your blog when I realized I could not find your email invitation. That was before I asked where I could find your invitation. But then I realized I had to sign in before having access and that worked. I was able to view your blog yesterday. So that’s probably why.

  4. Not all that glitters is gold pretty much sums it up. You never know what lies underneath, like judging honey by looking at the bee. This signifies to me that people wear mask only to conceal the pain that lies underneath it. Beautifully written I must say.

  5. This poem speaks to me – because of recent events. I think the person I am constantly thinking of simply feels afraid; I know there is so much incredible beauty on her inside, but I do not know how to make her allow me to prove to her that I mean what I write and say.
    Regardless, thank you for this.

      1. Thank you for your kind words. Will she, though? The less I think about it, the better for the time being, it would seem.

      2. She will. It’s only a matter of time. You should probably not think about it too much. I’m not sure what you may going through in your life now. Writing is therapy. Keep writing. You are worth it. Take each day as it is. And know that there is a God who loves you. Proverbs 18:10. That should give you some hope, my friend.
